Swami Vivekananda

Born: January 12, 1863, Calcutta

Date of death: July 4, 1902

“The moment I have realized God sitting in the temple of every human body, the moment I stand in reverence before every human being and see God in him - that moment I am free from bondage, everything that binds vanishes, and I am free.” -Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda is a shining star to Bengalis. He is one of the great men of India. He was a great role model for the youth society due to which his birthday is celebrated as "National Youth Day". Swami Vivekananda's contribution to Indian history will always be remembered as he spent most of his life promoting social welfare and the traditional culture of India and Veda Vedanta in different parts of the world. Since 1984, the day has been celebrated as National Youth Day. He is considered a role model for the youth community for his ideals and inspiration. That is why his birthday is celebrated on this occasion. Swami Vivekananda used to give immense importance to education in the development of a nation.

Swami Vivekananda was born on January 12, 1863. His original name was Narendra Nath Dutta. As a child, everyone knew him as Bill. From childhood, he was a very active and talented boy.

Born in a Kayastha family in North Calcutta. Father's name was Vishwanath Dutta and Swami Vivekananda's mother was Bhubaneswari Devi. Vishwanath Dutt was an advocate of the Calcutta court. He was very brave in childhood.

Naren first learned English and the alphabet from his mother. His schooling was completed at the Metropolitan Institution, Calcutta. He always had a keen interest in learning and was, needless to say, a very bright student.

He passed his BA from Calcutta and started studying Indian culture in depth. Do a lot of research and become conscious to know the truth of your own mind. But even after the research, he was not satisfied.

He instilled in himself the belief that there is God in man. He traveled all over India, fascinated by the love of his country, and wanted to show his nation and his country to everyone. Mixing with different castes, different religions, different languages, and different people of India, he formed a new form of himself and made himself for the service of people. He went around the city talking to the people about the country's love, culture, religion, etc.

On May 1, 1897, Ramakrishna Math was established in Calcutta. His main ideology was to serve the common people. Then Swami Vivekananda built Belur Math in Belur. Which is still famous today.

When the United Nations decided to celebrate it as the International Youth Year in 1985, from that year, the Government of India announced the celebration of 'Swami National Day' as Swami Ji's birth anniversary. A great source of inspiration for Indian youth is Swami Vivekananda and his philosophy of life and ideals.

In 1893, the World Conference of Religions was held in Chicago. His disciples and admirers in India wanted him to attend and address the World Conference of Religions. He also felt that the conference could be a great platform to present his thoughts and the traditional culture of India. So, Swami Vivekananda left Mumbai for America on 31 May 1893 with the help of his friend Raja Ajit Singh of Rajasthan who raised money from his disciples in Chennai.

On September 11, 1893, the day of the conference arrived, where Swami Vivekananda made his debut as the Indian representative. "My American sisters and brothers," he addressed the gathering, remembering his Indian Hinduism, his culture, and his guru. As soon as he heard this, the audience in the Vishwa Dharamsabha rose up and applauded. Then Swamiji gave his talk about Indian culture, religion, Veda Vedanta, etc.

Ever since Swamiji's historic visit to Chicago, he has spread his name across the country as well as around the world, during which time he was called the "Messenger of Indian Knowledge" in the West. After that, he did not stop only after his speech in Chicago, but after America, he also spread his thoughts in London.

Swami Vivekananda passed away on 4th July 1902. He is the jewel of Bengalis in the pages of history. His words inspire people even today. Our youth society is still struggling to remember his words.

Swami Vivekananda's name will forever burn in golden letters in the history of India as the right guide to the youth society.

“Love your family, work super hard, and live your passion.”
